Fun Mom: VBS

Really it is very unfair to call this a "Fun Mom" post. It should be a fun church or a fun community post because hundreds (literally) of adults joined together to make this week fun for my two and 258 other kiddos. The week was amazing, and the pics just don't do it justice...
There were tents. Lots of tents. And costumed tent mothers welcoming costumed children to morning lessons that a certain momma wrote. There was a man with a real shofar, blowing to call us all to the temple.
There were costumed booth workers helping children make pots
and necklaces and cloth and medicines (and there were medicinal leeches!)
and sandals
and baskets
and "wine"
and bread and so much more! There was a priest and a rabbi, a temple time and a scribe school,
a story teller and a dancing school. There was hair braiding
and cloth weaving
and activities
and foods and smells and animals
and lots and lots of people. And best of all, there was Jesus!
Jesus healing the sick, raising Lazarus, speaking of being the Lamb of God, the Bread of Life, the True Vine and the sender of the Helper.
Everyone did an excellent job bringing all of the pieces (teaching, craft making, feeding, acting, organizing, singing, and loving) together, and I really can't say a big enough THANK YOU to our church's elementary children's director.
So yes, the kids had a very FUN week, and I had a small, small part in that.

  1. Wow! That's an amazing VBS! I've never heard of the like!

My old church does a little event called "Bethlehem Village" at Christmas and it sounds similar, but this is amazing! I wish I could bring my kids!

    (thanks for linking up!)

  2. Wow - they sure went all out! I'm sure all the kids had a total blast :).

  3. Ack, Medicinal leaches! This looks like a fabulous program, I've looked at similar ones in the past to do with our church, but we just don't have the volunteer force at this time, I've always wanted to do a program like this one though. Trying to hold down the jealousy : )

  4. Hi there! Thanks for following me at "the perfect line". Be sure to check out this week's edition of Friends' Meetup Party where I show case all my new friends :) I encourage you to meet other bloggers on the list and share a few words about my meetup at your blog.

    Following you back! Thanks :)

  5. this year was Graham's first real year at VBS (he went previous years.. but as a baby because I was working). I was amazed at how much he learned and I was thrilled with how much fun he had. I wish we had vbs every single day during the summer.

  6. Looks like a wonderful experience.

  7. Wow! That looks really interesting. I hope that the children appreciate all the effort that was put into it. I'm very impressed myself and wish I had the opportunity to experience something this that as a child or even now. Visiting from Natural Parents Network!

  8. This looks like so much fun! The pots are quite impressive, too!

  9. Passing by from WW…didn’t get time to finish seeing everyone’s pictures! Wow those are some great pictures. I like the grape crushing one...

  10. How cool! What program is this? One of Group's? How did you use the leeches?
