Fun Mom: Kid's Menu

Forgive my drawings, but here is our summer kid's menu for lunches. The kids think it's cool, it makes things easier for me, and it reminds us that we don't always have to have peanut butter sandwiches. (What is that picture beside hot dog, anyway?) Did you notice that all of these lunches are super cheap? Feeding three kiddos can get expensive, but with a menu like this, we keep variety and save money!
Here's an example of the "cracker stacker lunch." I'm still serving lunches (on the back patio--less mess) from pencil boxes and the kids are still thrilled to open up their lunches each day. This is very convenient for making lunches in the morning; then if we want to take off for the park or the water steps or wherever, lunches are ready to grab and go.

  1. I love this post! Your idea for using a pencil box for lunch sounds so fun; I know my two-year-old would love the surprise of seeing what's in her box each day. What a great idea! Thanks for sharing...

  3. I serve most of these lunches too, but putting them in a pencil box - pure genius! I am totally going to stock up as soon as the back-to-school stuff arrives in the stores (in about three days)! ;)

  4. Very smart and cute idea. Might help with my older kids too as they could start getting out their own things for lunch.

  5. Such a cute idea!

I have "played restaurant" with the kids at supper before, we color menus, they wait by the door for me to seat them, etc.

Love your posted lunch menu though, seems like it would take some of the brain work out of having to think about lunch everyday and the kids would probably think I'm the coolest mom ever :o)

(found you through moriah's fun mom Friday)

  6. Love this idea. I've got a 5 and 3 y.o. and think this would go over big! I found you from Paisley Passion--I adore food linkies--so much inspiration. I hope you get a chance to link up this food feature over at Friday Food on Momtrends:

  8. Oh I can't tell you how much this blessed me tonight. My "big" girl(15) will be doing lunch for the next month as I will be gone for swim lessons prior to lunch. This will be a fun idea for her to run with! Taking the orders & getting them ready before we get home. Takes planning & adds a element of fun. Great post!

  9. That's a really great idea. And I keep thinking about getting bento boxes, but using a pencil box is a super cheap idea and I can just go to the store and buy them rather than having to order them! Thanks for the tips.

  11. Also, I love the cracker stackers. I get soooo stuck in a rut with peanut butter and jelly.

I just opened up a summer linky for "fun moms" and the fun things they're doing this summer. Would you consider linking this post? It would be perfect!
