Weathering the Storm

taken by a friend in our city's downtown area during one of the storms
"Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
      I have called you by your name;
      You are Mine.
       When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
      And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.
      When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned,
      Nor shall the flame scorch you.
       For I am the LORD your God"
Isaiah 43: 1b-3b
"So the men marveled, saying, “Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?"
Matthew 8:27
I'm sure you've heard all about all the more than 100 tornados that hit the south this past Wednesday. We were in the midst of that, but saw only high winds on our own property. We lost power just a bit, but we had no trees down. Neighbors all around us had trees on their houses and just down the road, in a town nearby, there were deaths, missing people, and complete devastation. As I heard someone else say, "Would you rather these storms be completely random (i.e controlled by the evil one) or be controlled by the hand of a loving God?" We saw many instances of the storm being controlled by a loving God.

A family from our church lives in the house above, which they run as a bed and breakfast. Very recently they rearranged their son's room. If his bed had been in the place that it was last week, he would have been crushed by the tree when it fell.
The following pictures were taken by my friend of her neighborhood. Every other house in their neighborhood had a major tree on or in it after the storm except for their house! Since she is expecting a baby next month, this was a particular blessing.

Please join with me in praying for all those who lost houses, possessions and family members in the storm. And maybe join with me in also cleaning out your own possessions and taking donations to one of the Salvation Army's set up help points; it truly makes you reevaluate your own priorities!

  6. I just found out today that the bed and breakfast house that had a tree on it (first pic of a house) will have to be completely demolished. So sad!
