Six Word Saturday #2

Struggling With My Six Year Old
This doesn't really DEFINE my life right now
(I could still use the 6 words from 2 weeks ago to do that)
but it does describe a substantial part of my day-to-day.
We homeschool and I didn't have any illusions that it would be easy but...
(may I whine a bit?)
it is REALLY hard sometimes.
The thing is, I really love to teach her
but she seems to think that she should already know everything.
(Hmm... this sounds really familiar!)
So whenever she comes upon something that takes a little work,
she throws up her hand and pitches a fit.
(God, do I really do that to You?)
There now, I feel better.
We do a lot of fun things with our homeschooling
and there is a lot of social interaction
and extras.
Like choir and PE at the Y and ballet.
And we spend a lot of time with crafts and free reading.
(she loves to read!).
If anyone has any easy fixes I'd love to hear them;
(Definitely said with my tongue in my cheek.)
otherwise, life is very good, and I am thankful!

  1. I wish you all the best! I'm 46 and just learning that I don't have to seem like I already know everything! ;->

  2. I am looking forward to homeschooling my girls for a little while, but I am so nervous about potential fits and fights!

I have no quick fixes, as all my parenting expertise applies to children two and under.

Happy 6ws and thanks for stopping by my blog :)

  3. awww. i wish i had some tips for you. i have zero experience in the field of home schooling. i can offer you a free copy of my children's book, There Was Once A Potato, that your daughter will enjoy. good luck and thanks for stopping by! :)

  4. Olivia, I probably already said this before, but your little girl is so adorable in the picture on your header.

As far homeschooling sounds like you have several good things going for your six year old already. Just pray a lot and hang in there! (:>) Make it fun and use everything throughout the day as a lesson...Life is full of object lessons. I never did it, but my daughters do and that's what I think they would tell you. ((Hugs))

  5. well, mine are all older now. I did homeschool, but, of course, every child is different as we all know. Depending on how well she reasons, you could use leverage (that's what we do with older too). If she absolutely LOVES ballet or something like that say, "If you refuse to work with me quietly, you won't be able to do so and so this week." Other than that, I got nothing. :)
    Have a good weekend.

  6. Hi, I admire you for making the effort to homeschool. Even school teachers have good and bad days with students, so hang in there. Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving a comment! Have a geat weekend, Kathy

  7. Nobody said life or parenthood or childhood or homeschoolng would be easy. :) Hang in there!
Happy 6WS! Thank you for putting up with my Saints story. I don't think it was sacreligious but then ...

  8. I have no words of wisdom but hang in there. Thanks for playing 6WS!
